New Lens II

// March 8th, 2007 // photos

So two days after my 28mm showed up in the mail I saw this orphaned (re: on consignment) Sigma at the Camera Store. Yeah I know it’s a Sigma but it’s a 24-70mm f2.8 constant aperture… and it’s a huge sucker which would be great if I had to compensate for anything else… I don’t.

Depending on how soft (or sharp) this lens is wide open I may put the 28mm up on eBay.

    Depending on the price I may be interested in your 28 prime if you decide to get rid of it.

    I’ll let you know. I got the prime pretty cheap so if the Sigma is decent I may be convinced to part fairly easily.

    this lens is unreasonably large…
    one might think you were overcompensating…

    If you think that thing is big take a look at this http://www.dpreview.com/news/0703/07030805sigma200500mm.asp don’t worry the image is safe for work.

    Jeeeeesus. Er. Saves?

  6. jeremy says:

    Perhaps he does. Although I certainly did get a smokin deal on this baby I have to questions the timing of Jesus’ supernatural savings radar. It would have been much more convenient had he found me this deal prior to my prime purchase. :)

    You need to let us know how you get these ridiculous deals I hear about.

  8. jeremy says:

    Sometimes you just get lucky. Now I just need a good deal on a D200.

    Seriously take a look at this Sigma with an actual person in the shot: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/images/pma07/IMG_8063-sigma.jpg
    It weighs 88lbs for godsake.

    That lens is ridiculous. So how does she perform?

    I haven’t had a chance to shoot with it a whole lot. I tend to keep my 18-200 VR lens on my camera most of the time. I bought this one mainly for low light situations.

    Hopefully I’ll get a chance to really test out in the next couple weeks.
